INSTALLATION OF QE2 PLATIGNUM JUBILEE TREES, (March 2023)

The Committee of Managment were fortunate to receive federal a grant of $5,000 for the installation of native trees in commemoration of Queen Elizabeth II Platignum Jubilee. The committee arranged for the installation of a commemorative tree to be planted behind each of the seven crosses in remembrance of our fallen soldiers in WW1. A stainless steel engraved commemorative plaque was installed on our "stone cenotaph" and unveilled/launched by the City of Greater Bendigo Mayor, Ms Andrea Metcalfe. A complementary afternoon tea was provided in the main hall for those in attendance.

At this stage the project is not yet completed, with the irrigation of the trees yet to be undertaken. The project is scheduled to be completed by November 2023.

 

UPDATE OF KITCHEN FACILITIES, (May 2019)

The kitchen of the hall has now been upgraded to include a modern 900mm stainless steel oven with ceramic glass top, plus multi speed stainless steel extraction hood. In addition an electric four bay commercial grade stainless steel Bain Maree and pie warming oven are now available for use of hall hirers.

 

UPDATE OF AUDIO SYSTEM (March 2018)

The audio system was upgraded with an additional extension speaker, compatible with and matching the original system inclusive of quality extension audio cables.  In addition two compatible heavy duty adjustable stands were procured for the units. This upgrade will significantly enhance the system capability for both internal and external functions at the Hall complex. Particular improvement will be enjoyed at our annual ANZAC ceremonies by the upgraded system

 

REPLACEMENT OF ROSES & PROTECTION, (October 2017)

The standard roses that were donated by the Meighan sisters and installed in the memorial avenue in 2010, sadly have been severely damaged or died as a direct result of kangaroos and prevalent drought. As such they have all been replaced by a more hardy variety of rose species, and the irrigation system has been modified to better suit the installation. In addition protection screens have been installed around the new roses to better protect them from kangaroos etc

 

INSTALLATION OF POWER POINTS TO HALL GATE AREA (September 2017)

The Hall Committee recently engaged an electrical company to trench and  install external power points to the following areas:

1. External on the "West Wall" of the Hall.

2. Immediately adjacent to the flagpole.

3. Adjacent to the South side of the entry gate.

4. Adjacent to the North side of the entry gate.

These power points will assist in supporting events, and improve safety at the hall, in particular our annual remembrance services, by avoiding the use of trailing extension leads (trip hazards) during events.

 

PURCHASE AND INSTALLATION OF A FLAGPOLE

The Woodvale Hall Committee were recently awarded a grant (2017), by the Bendigo RSL for the purchase and installation of a Flagpole to assist in the commemoration of our annual ANZAC and remembrance services. This was installed by volunteers in the forecourt of the community hall.

 

UPGRADE OF KITCHEN FACILITIES (2016)

The kitchen facilities were upgraded with specialised hand washing facilities with automatic tap. A new instant hot water unit was installed in addition to a new stainless pie warmer and trolley.  

 

INSTALLATION OF SOLAR LIGHTS

Motion detector - lights (LED)  at both entries to the building were installed. This will enhance the safety of hall visitors when arriving/leaving after dark, providing illumination to and from vehicles.

 

INSTALLATION OF SINK UNIT IN PERGOLA.

 

A new double sink unit and tiled back-splash was installed in the Hall Pergola BBQ area to provide washing facilities etc.

 

IRRIGATION SYSTEM -  2012

An irrigation system has now been installed by committee volunteers. This involved trenching and installing some 280 metres of irrigation pipework and associated sprinkler equipment. The system is supported by a newly installed irrigation pump and electronic timer. This will provide computerised water supply to the avenue of trees within the property, in addition to the newly planted (replacement) roses on the Memorial Avenue.

 

PROVISION OF SECURITY CUPBOARD - 2012

A security cupboard has been installed to contain attractive items.

 

NEW VACUUM CLEANERS - 2012

Two vacuum cleaners have been procured (one new) to assist the committee in regular cleaning of the the hall. 

 

PURCHASE OF SOUND SYSTEM - 2012

A wireless sound and music system has been procured to support events and parties etc. and enhance the ability to rent out the facility

 

INSTALLATION OF NEW VINYL FLOOR - 2012

The hallway, kitchen, and both male and female ablutions have been fitted with new high quality and hard wearing vynil flooring.

 

INSTALLATION OF NEW FRIDGE - 2012

The hall is now equipped with two refrigerators to assist catering activities in the kitchen

 

INSTALLATION OF MEMORABILIA - 2011

The hall committee were kindly donated some very significant historical memorabilia/pictures of one of the founder families of Woodvale - The Daly family. This series of pictures has now been proudly mounted in the main hall.

 

PAINTING OF HALL AND PERGOLA - 2011

The Community Hall was successful in applying to COGB "Community Grants" for funds to paint the Hall and the BBQ Pergola. The Pergola was completed recently by volunteers, and the main building (Hall/Kitchen/Ablutions etc) are currently being painted by contractors.

All painting has been undertaken utilising approved heritage colours, and is expected to be completed by the end of May 2011 

 

BBQ SINK AND WATER SUPPLY - 2011

This project included the installation of a double bowl stainless sink, with approved drainage, and a new pressurised water supply. This allows the hygienic use of the BBQ facility, providing washing up and hand cleansing in food preparation.  

 

CRUSHED ROCK TO CAR PARK - 2011

 The car park has now had 30 cubic metres of crushed rock/road base installed to minimise the mud in the area and slippage. It also minimises mud being carried into the hall by footware. 

 

BLINDS INSTALLED ON WEST WINDOWS POWER UPGRADE - 2011

The installation of blinds in the building provides shade from the blinding sun in the main hall, in addition to minimising fading of historical artifacts.

 

WATER SUPPLY -  2011

There has been an upgrade to the water supply to the building, with new pipework and pump recently installed by volunteers. The upgrade included the provision of pressured supply to the kitchen, and linking the new tank at the rear of the shed into the system.

 

POWER UPGRADE TO BUILDING - 2010

The power upgrade to building is completed, and the reverse cycle air conditioners are operational.

 

OLD SCHOOL SWING - 2010

Sadly the old school swing has had to be removed for safety reasons, however commemorative photographs were taken and mounted in the hall display cabinet with other historical artifacts. The metal swing support will be retained and a use or display found for it.

 

AUSTRALIAN FLAG -  2010

A new Flag has been  obtained to replace the stolen one, and was raised for the first time at the Anzac day memorial ceremony  in 2010, see "Woodvale Gallery" and select "Anzac Commemoration Ceremony 2010."

 

MEMORIAL PLAQUE -  2010

The commemorative rising sun plaque, which was missing from the School since the early 60's ?, was recovered and has been re-furbished, (double nickel plated) and re-instated back into the Avenue of Honour.

The installation was completed in preparation for a memorial service and public unveiling of the commemorative plaque on Anzac day to honour our heroes in April 2010. - This was very well attended in addition to being reported on in the media, both Win News and print media.

To celebrate the event there was an afternoon tea held  at the hall for all.

This plaque is a wonderful addition to the historical artifacts now in place at the community hall, and back into it's rightful place for our visitors and residents to enjoy.

 

MEMORIAL AVENUE - 2010

The Meighan sisters, who attended the recent ANZAC commemorative ceremony, donated seven "Standard" roses to replace those lost over the years that were originally planted in 1927. An acknowledgement plaque has been erected in the hall to commemorate the gift.

The roses were planted between the crosses, with protective concrete surrounds.
