Woodvale Community Hall

PROJECTS IN HAND

New works will be undertaken in the near future at the Hall and in the community with the "Small Towns" funding round for 2010 - 2011. The sum of $16.673 has been gratefully received from COGB, and funded projects are expected to commence shortly.

PROJECTS RECENTLY COMPLETED

PAINTING OF HALL AND PERGOLA

The Community Hall was successful in applying to COGB "Community Grants" for funds to paint the Hall and the BBQ Pergola. The Pergola was completed recently by volunteers, and the main building (Hall/Kitchen/Ablutions etc) are currently being painted by contractors.

All painting has been undertaken utilising approved heritage colours, and is expected to be completed by the end of May 2011

 BBQ SINK AND WATER SUPPLY

This project included the installation of a double bowl stainless sink, with approved drainage, and a new pressurised water supply. This allows the hygienic use of the BBQ facility, providing washing up and hand cleansing in food preparation.

CRUSHED ROCK TO CAR PARK

The car park has now had 30 cubic metres of crushed rock/road base installed to minimise the mud in the area and slippage. It also minimises mud being carried into the hall by footware.

BLINDS INSTALLED ON WEST WINDOWS  POWER UPGRADE

The installation of blinds in the building provides shade from the blinding sun in the main hall, in addition to minimising fading of historical artifacts.

POWER UPGRADE TO BUILDING

The power upgrade to building is completed, and the reverse cycle air conditioners are operational.

WATER SUPPLY

There has been an upgrade to the water supply to the building, with new pipework and pump recently installed by volunteers. The upgrade included the provision of pressured supply to the kitchen, and linking the new tank at the rear of the shed into the system.

OLD SCHOOL SWING

Sadly the old school swing has had to be removed for safety reasons, however commemorative photographs were taken and mounted in the hall display cabinet with other historical artefacts. The metal swing support will be retained and a use or display found for it.

AUSTRALIAN FLAG

A new Flag has been  obtained to replace the stolen one, and was raised for the first time at the Anzac day memorial ceremony  in 2010, see "Woodvale Gallery" and select "Anzac Commemoration Ceremony 2010."

MEMORIAL PLAQUE

The commemorative rising sun plaque, which was missing from the School since the early 60's ?, was recovered and has been re-furbished, (double nickel plated) and re-enstated back into the Avenue of Honour.

The installation was completed in preparation for a memorial service and public unveilling of the commemorative plaque on Anzac day to honour our heroes in April 2010. - This was very well attended in addition to being reported on in the media, both Win News and print media.

To celebrate the event there was an afternoon tea held  at the hall for all.

This plaque is a wonderful addition to the historical artifacts now in place at the community hall, and back into it's rightful place for our visitors and residents to enjoy.

MEMORIAL AVENUE

The Meighan sisters, who attended the recent ANZAC commemorative ceremony, donated seven "Standard" roses to replace those lost over the years that were originally planted in 1927. An acknowledgement plaque has been erected in the hall to commemorate the gift.

The roses were planted between the crosses, with protective concrete surrounds.
